Let your style sense take flight with this season’s soaring new trend.  Birds and feathers are the inspiration behind whimsical hair, accessory and clothing trends this summer. Whether it be hair clips, long chain necklaces or embroidered dresses, avian fashion is in.

Bird feathers are practically dominating the hair accessory market this summer.  Choose anything from a turquoise, peacock-feathered headband to an eagle-inspired hair comb to an ethereal suede thread of beads and soft feathers to clip in. You can even find a few feathery friends populating head scarf prints.

The look and feel of this Pocahontas-inspired hair accessory trend is bohemian, tribal chic. It’s reserved for the most bold of fashionistas.  Someone like artsy Sienna Miller could pull it off, but you might end up looking a little too beatnik if it’s not your style.

As for jewelry trends, you can find avian-influenced pieces that work with any level of style confidence.  The most popular of these is the long gold chain necklace with a shell feather and others charms at the end.  Feather charms can be carved from shell or come in silver, gold or enamel.  There are also necklaces with artificial bird feathers.

The newest necklace charm trend is the elegant, gliding swallow. Paired with beads or baubles along a chain of gold or leather, this charm looks chic and earthy.  Try a necklace with flying swallows strewn all along it for the ultimate in this bird-loving trend.
These necklaces can be worn with printed tunics, classic tees or summer dresses.  They look especially pretty with a V neckline.

Necklaces isn’t the only jewelry category with avian appeal.  Try a peacock bangle bracelet or earrings made from artificial pheasant feathers.

Peacock feathers are the inspiration behind many of the ethnic prints you’ll find in shirts and sundresses this summer. Turquoise, navy and green make an unstoppable combination. These garments are chic but pretty at the same time.

Also, don’t be surprised to find embroidered birds on many fabrics this summer.  Expect to see it on flouncy skirts, chic day dresses or cotton tanks. Try something like this gorgeous dress by Free People.  It has a navy blue top, gold waistband and a creamy velvet skirt embroidered with beautiful green and blue birds.

For something a little more casual, try a long-sleeve black tee with a white-bird print or a white T-shirt peppered with ethereal gray feathers.

No matter what your style is like, look to add avian pieces to your wardrobe this summer.  The avian trend is ethereal, it’s bohemian and it’s just what you need to take an outfit from bleak to chic.
