These two guys, Dave and Ethan, are average looking Joes with the humor and personality that you find on The Office. For the past 6 months they have been uploading videos updating everyone on their status of dates and love life. Although they have not found any long-term commitment yet, they have provided a good laugh to the avid You Tubers. Dave and Ethan also state a list of requirements that potential dates must possess. First, you have to be good looking-really good looking. Secondly, you can’t be crazy (damn, that eliminates me) and thirdly you have to be clean. No hood rats filled with the latest STD please. I think these are pretty legit requirements. While I watched a few of their videos I wondered…nis this what dating will turn into? Will the Internet dating scene go to the next level by submitting video blogs (vlogs) of yourself in hopes to find true love? As I thought more about this I figured it be much more successful than the typical dating websites where you just upload pictures of yourself and cross your fingers that you find a decent match. And I think we all know the dangers in that. If the picture looks too good to be true, you’re probably right. With a video you get so much more and it benefits both ends of the spectrum. Obviously you get a 360˚ view of the person, which can be a real deal breaker. You would think a picture would be a good tell all, but what about a profile shot? That hot blonde may look like a supermodel, but once you she turns her head and you get a glimpse of that Alf nose, you better hope there’s nothing in your path to the toilet. Gross. Another perk to vlog dating is that you get a real taste of their personality. After all it’s a person’s personality that really counts, right? Let’s pretend we aren’t that shallow. It’s hard to hide someone’s quirkiness when you are watching a video of them talking themselves, which everyone loves to do. Meeting people through vlogs is more personal and real than reading their 250-word profile and seeing 3 pictures of them. I’m not saying the traditional online dating sites are ineffective, just that people always want more and the latest craze. Dave and Ethan have really started something fresh. I came across several copycats after I gained interest in this phenomenon. But I ask, do they come off as desperate? Is this whole thing a joke? Whatever it may be it’s funny as hell. Can you imagine if people started to post vlogs of them stripping and begging for someone to have sex with them? That will be the day.

While taking a longer than necessary study break, I surfed You Tube looking for a good laugh. I came across a video of two 20-something guys asking if anyone wanted to go on a double date with them. They have a slew of videos talking about dates they went on and what they are looking for. I will admit, I sat on my couch and soberly laughed for 15 minutes.
