Summer has long been heralded as a time for college students to make moves: whether it be diving into the job force with an internship or figuring out just how many beers the human body can handle in one afternoon, students take the warm months as a time to discover the world beyond the campus confines. And nothing says new experiences quite like a European backpacking excursion. But with so much to see and so little money to make it work, it's hard to know what is worth your Euro and what isn't? We here at Boosh Magazine gauge traveling right up there with a cool brew and an awesome song as some of our favorite things. So we scoured Western Europe and came up with some affordable experiences that shouldn't be missed.
AMSTERDAM
Amsterdam is an essential stop off point for any proper European-bound vacation. With the decriminalized drugs and legal prostitution, it is every frat boy's dream. And besides the obvious motivations of red lights and potent green; Amsterdam is full of unique architecture, ancient streets and lively people. Some of your funniest and most vivid trip memories will come from experiences here. We promise.
De Dampkring Coffee Shop
Going to Amsterdam and not going to a coffee shop is like going to Memphis and not eating barbecue. We've hit up a billion weed cafes in Amsterdam, and De Dampkring is our absolute favorite. Not only is the interior stylish and interesting to look at while smoking, but it is also a local hotspot, which means friendlier atmosphere and stronger green. One cool thing to note about De Dampkring is that it was used for a scene in “Oceans Twelve”. If you look behind the bar, there is a picture of Brad Pitt smoking a J.
The Melkweg
When you are finished window-shopping in the Red Light district, head to City Center and check out the hippest music venue in Amsterdam, the Melkweg. This famous concert hall plays host to every big band that passes through and on any given night you could be listening to anyone from a small Euro artist to Ben Harper. One more great thing – you can puff inside.
Van Gogh Museum
Another museum? Sounds like a drag, we know. But once again, this place is worth it. Van Gogh was literally insane in the later parts of his painting career/ life, and when walking through this museum, you can see the different stages of his life through the ways that he painted. Besides the whole ear thing, the guy was great, and his art is unsurpassed in beauty. Plus - do we have to remind you shit is decriminalized. A sandwich with the funky shrooms and you might just have the trip of a lifetime.
