For most college students, spring break is equivalent to Christmas and the 4th of July combined. It’s a refreshing getaway filled with fun in the sun, barely remembered wild nights that end with everyone howling as the sun rises, lusty hookups with people that you are guaranteed to never see again (unless the happen to go to your school) and everything in between.

We all know that times are tough and the economy is hanging above the abyss by a rusty and frayed wire, so chances are you aren’t trying to break the bank with expensive air fare in your quest for drunken sexy time hilarity.  If you are worried that all you can afford is a case of Miller Lite, a high-powered sunlamp mounted in your living room and a Jimmy Buffet CD, don’t worry, because we have an alternative.

Here is the 411 on several affordable spring break options. You want rowdy, here you go.

 "The Original"- Daytona Beach, FL

Driving From:

Miami (FL)- 4.5 Hours

Chicago- 18 Hours

Austin (TX)- 17 Hours

New York- 16 Hours

Hotels:

Palm Plaza

Boardwalk Inn

Aqua Terrace

Bars:

Oyster Pub

Froggy’s Saloon

Tailgator’s

Boot Hill Saloon

It’s not Cancun, but then again, it isn’t Ohio either. Set on the eastern coast of Florida, Daytona Beach is the penny-wise getaway you have been dreaming of.  With miles of beaches dotted with affordable giant resort hotels, and hours away from huge southern state schools, this place will be a hotbed of sexy gals strutting about in thongs and other similar visual delights.

An added bonus is that you can drive your car right onto the beach.  That’s pretty cool if you ask me.  Mix that with the ten tattoo parlors and dozens of bars within spitting distance of the beach, and you have one hell of a time.  And if you like NASCAR, is there any other place to go?

The drive might be a bit long for those attending school in more northern and eastern locations, but hey, the road trip is sometimes the best part of the vacation.

It’s no surprise that Panama City Beach is on our list. It’s the epicenter of spring break as we know it.  If you head to this city, be prepared to do some serious damage to your eardrums, liver and your sense of morality. Girls, booze and passing out on the beach at 4 a.m.; it’s all in a day’s work for a Panama City Beach spring-breaker.

It’s a fact that they do things bigger in Texas, and the spring break haven South Padre Island is proof of that.  Located on the southern tip of Texas, this 34-mile island is jam packed with hotels, bars and restaurants. And the miles and miles of beautiful white beaches are the perfect setting for doing some serious babe scoping.

This destination is labeled “the fastest-growing meeting location in the country”.  Come and see why. As a means to maximize your spring break pleasure, there are plenty of events and locations that cater specifically to you.

Do you feel like going down south? Way south?  Well, a trip to Mexico might be just what the doctor ordered.  Ensenada, located 70 miles south of San Diego, is one of the nicer and more vibrant parts of Baja California, offering lots of beach time and night life options.  No wonder this place is called “the Cinderella of the Pacific”; it has something for the high roller and plenty to do for a group traveling on a budget.  And during Spring Break season, this bustling sea port is crawling with hoards of lovely Americanos looking for a fiesta grande.  One thing to note is that if you plan on driving to Ensenada, you need to purchase Mexican auto insurance at the border, which will run you $10.

"The Local Spot"- Puerto Penasco, Mexico

Travel From:

Denver – 15 Hours

Las Vegas- 7 Hours

Here’s another Mexico option. It’s located about 60 miles over the border on the Sea of Cortez.  Puerto Penasco, or Rocky Point, is a nearly exclusive spring break destination for all Arizona and Southern California college students. There are many huge clubs, like Manny’s or the Pink Cadillac that offer up lots of different ways to have a stimulating time. This town was built for rowdy times, but be careful, because the local police (Federales) will take any opportunity to shake you down for all the money in your pockets. Example: I was at Manny’s beach club partying hard, and decided to take a number one on some rocks to the side of the beach. About five seconds into the deed, three Federales grabbed me and threw me to the ground (Unfortunately I was still doing the deed). They cussed me out in Spanish ad took the 500 pesos ($50) in my pocket.  Bummer.

 "The Wild Card"-  Savannah, GA

Travel From:

Boston- 17 Hours

Cincinnati- 11 Hours

Minneapolis- 21 Hours

Hampton Inn Savannah

Comfort Inn and Suite Savannah

Best Western Central Inn

Bars:

Six Pence Pub

Deja Groove

Moon River Brewing Co

If you are in the type of person that enjoys a more relaxed time, you should consider taking a drive to Savannah. Of course there is a bounty of nightlife in this 235-year-old city, but the real reason to come here is to scope out the culture and scenery. The key to enjoying this city is to take to walking down historic River Street and through all the beautiful parks scattered throughout the city. And if it is the beach that you desire, the ocean is a mere 17 miles from the city center.  This is definitely the type of place to go to with your better half instead of with a rowdy busload of beer-crazed coeds.
